Top Tip Friday | Make up collection organisation

Now, before the age of 20 I rarely owned a piece of make up. In fact, I think I owned a couple of lipglosses at the most and may be the odd lip stick or lip balm. (I did tell you I was a tad bit obsessed didn't I? ) In the short space of 3 years, I now seem to have what can only be describe as a small growing collection of make up which shows no signs of calming down (and I am not complaining)

I suddenly realised I needed to fix where I put all my make up and how I stored it. I know most bloggers own some form of IKEA storage that looks absolutely stunning but I am not one of them. I have been making do with the existing furniture I have in my room and thought I would share it with you as an alternative (incase like me you don't own anything from IKEA)

Here are some tips I learnt and thought I would share with you.

Using seperaters
I don't know about you but having my make up in little compartments makes it much easier for me to be able to see exactly what I have in my collection. That way I can keep things in rotation and mix things up a little bit from time to time. I do still get stuck in a make up rut from time to time but it makes sure that I know what I have and keep on top of them. There are many storage options you can use to do this with but if you are on a budget, the ones I am using are these from Wilkos and they have not done me wrong yet. Old Birchbox's are also a great option.

Order
I have an order I put my make up in which usually goes is in the order of which I plan to use them. For example the first section on my top drawer will be where I keep my primer and tinted moisturiser because these are two of the things I apply first. It saves you so much time in the morning faffing around figuring out where everything is.

The bottom drawers are reserved for things that I am saving. These are usually samples I want to keep for first impression posts or trips away as well as some bath products or things I have accumulated that I am waiting to give a go.

I still have a bit to go. I want to plan a space to put products I have to review / take pictures of. At the moment I am just storing them in a small bag which works but I feel like I want something a bit more.

Yes, one day I would love to own the Alex drawers but in all honesty I am happy with my set up at the moment. It is not too big or too small with room to grow my stash if I wish too. I have been wanting to do this for a while and now feel slightly more calm and collected I can see everything I have in my beauty stash easily.

How do you store your make up? Do you have any tips? share them in the comments below.

Lots of love
