Make up Monday | The SPF Base

Happy Monday folks! Hope you are all having a great start to the week. If you live in the UK it cannot have escaped your attention that the weather is picking up and the sun is coming out. This means many of us are worried about burning our skin and protecting ourselves from the sun.

This is where SPF comes in. SPF stands for Sun protection factor and can be found in subscreen and make up products such as your foundations. The aim is to protect you from the sun's UVA rays. The higher the SPF, the better it is for you. I've been trying out two bases that contain a small amount of SPF in them (I am lucky I do not need a really really high SPF but if you have pale skin be sure to get a SPF 30 sunscreen) and thought I would share it with you.

Origins Smarty Pants CC cream | Buy Here
The skincare brand Origins also does make up. I haven't tried too much from their line but I recently got this sample when I made an order online and was excited to give it a go. It is a lightweight formula which is not greasy making it perfect for the warmer months. I have the shade 01 - Light to medium and found that it works well with my skin. It is sheer so the colour pay off is slightly less than a lightweight foundation however it is pretty impressive as I was expecting the colour payoff to be less that it was. As it is a CC cream ie Colour Correcting so it leaves your skin looking flawless taking away redness you may have from it. It contains SPF 20 which is great for a base and is a perfect alternative for those days you don't want to wear heavy foundation or just having a good skin day.

Clarins Hydra Quench Tinted Moisturiser | Buy Here
As part of their new summer launches Clarins released their Hydra Quench Tinted Moisturiser. As I love the range I was excited to see this and how it worked. It contains drops of their hydra quench serum so it provides your skin with extra hydration. It has an SPF 15 which is not high but is better than nothing and would work well on top of a face sunscreen / SPF. I liked using this as a moisturiser, rather than a tinted moisturiser and I like a little bit more coverage but it does get rid of some of the redness around my nose and something that I wear on no make up days. I've also worn this as a primer to go over my foundation or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser.

There are other bases that have SPF out there so always check for samples (like I did with these) and work with your skin. I would also say do not just rely on your base for your SPF try and get a specific face sunscreen (Aprivita do a nice one) especially if you are going on holiday. If you are like me and do not burn easily it is still important to protect your skin from the sun rays so it is worth stocking up on.

For those of you who want to know more about SPF. As I am no expert, I will leave you in the safe hands of Caroline Hirrons who is my go to for all things skincare.

Now you have that sorted, time for you to enjoy that sunshine.

Lots of love
